This course is intended for use by first-year master’s students of English at the University of Ziane Achour - Djelfa (Algeria.)
During the past two years of your University BA degree preparations, you were introduced to the world of translation. On the one hand, topics such as the definition, history, types, and procedures of translation were discussed, and, on the other hand, practical activities involving some of the previous topics were done in class and as homework.
Today, believing in the idea of designing courses that immediately respond to our society’s needs and convinced that you can go further in learning translation, I put this course between your hands.
This course, despite being introductory, aims at taking the students on a journey not just to further introduce them to this world of inter-lingual communication, but also to open their eyes to some aspects of “the industry of translation.”
Three types of translation make the content of this course: legal translation, medical translation, and administrative translation. Based on these grounds, the course is divided into three main topics; each covering a type of translation. Students are asked to do their activities both in order for them to assess their learning by themselves (self-assessment) and in order for the teacher to provide grades.
