This chapter introduces 1st year students (department of English) to the last successful invasion that took place in England along with its political, religious, social and cultural consequences on the kingdom. It introduces the Normans, the main battles behind the successful invasion, and its characteristics; such as the French culture/language, architecture, doomsday book, and the feudal system. In addition, it exposes the reasons behind the decline of 'feudalism'.
